[Plugin] FredoScale 2.0h - 26 Nov 09

Postby Fredo6 on Sun Mar 29, 2009 12:10 am

[Updated Chinese version - 26 Nov 09 - 21:50 CET
Here is the LANG file for the Chinese version, produced by Diweiman, ShuangYu and the SuBAR_CLT team at SketchupBar.
In the attached Zip file, there is a file FredoScale_ZH.lang, which should go to the FREDOSCALE_Dir_21 subfolder.
Do not forget to download the chinese version for LibFredo6 (see http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947&p=144178#p144178).
FredoScale_ZH.lang.zip

[Edit - 19 Oct 09 - 09:30 CET -> FredoScale 2.0h]
Updated version with:
  • A fix in the Stretch tool, following a bug signaled by elcorto. see http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17948&p=191988#p191737
  • Documentation in French translated by Jean-Franco and Christophe Plassais. Note that the documentation only covers the Scale and Taper tools, as in the English version,, but indicates how to orientate the box.
    FredoScale User Manual - French - v2.0 - 28 Mar 09.pdf
  • Updated Spanish translation by Gaonirico (from the base translation by Pichuneke)

[Edit - 24 May 09 - 00:35 CET -> FredoScale 2.0g]
IMPORTANT: I decided to change the name of this plugin, as the previous name could create confusion with an existing company and infringe their trademark. Please use now the new name FredoScale when referring to this plugin.
This version is identical to the previous one 2.0f, except the possibility to configure the toolbar without separators (a request from CadFather). The option can be selected in the Default Parameter dialog box.
Also do not forget to erase the file ZLoader__FreeScale.rb. Otherwise you'll have the new and old versions together and thus 2 toolbars (although it should work).
It requires you have LibFredo6 3.1f installed. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.

[Edit - 04 May 09 - 23:00 CET -> FredoScale 2.0f]
Fixed some remaining issues with Mac compatibility for Web dialog boxes, and included the full Italian translation kindly provided by COSEDIMARCO.
It requires you also upgrade to LibFredo6 3.1f, especially for Mac users. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.

[Edit - 28 Apr 09 - 22:20 CET -> FredoScale 2.0e]
Fixed a major bug concerning Stretch in Target mode and also the bug on default box for squares (which was not aligned).
It requires you also upgrade to LibFredo6 3.1e. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.

[Edit - 17 Apr 09 - 06:15 CET -> FredoScale 2.0d]
Fixed a major bug introduced in 2.0c concerning the Target mode (asa well as the dimension specification via dialog box). Sorry for that.
  • Translation in Korean by Couque d`asse. Thanks.
It requires you also upgrade to LibFredo6 3.1d. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.
IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED 2.0c, IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED TO MIGRATE TO 2.0d

[Edit - 11 Apr 09 - 16:30 CET -> FredoScale 2.0c]
various bugs fixed, some small evolutions and more Mac compliance
  • Translation in Spanish by Pichuneke. Thanks to him
  • Translation in Japanese by Takeshi H. I guess you need to have your computer set up for these characters. Many thanks too.
  • For Bend tool, possibility to type the length in VCB, as suggested by Free Agent (see http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17948&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=195#p146458)
  • Possibility to set the line width of the deformation box in Default Parameters, as suggested by Coen. I also reduced the width by default.
  • Progress on Mac compatibility: Function key are now enabled, but you may have to type fn + Fx. Persistence of toolbar visibility across sessions now supported. Some improvements in the display of web dialog boxes, but probably still many problems left. Thanks to Jeff and Takeshi for help.
  • another 'native' feature added to the Protractor to mimic Sketchup
  • fixing of some other bugs I found
It requires you also upgrade to LibFredo6 3.1c. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.
Doc not ready yet. So still in beta
CAUTION: in SU6, do not have the Outliner open when perfroming Bend or Twist with slicer mode. Bug Splat guaranteed. Seems to be OK however in SU7.
INFO: you have a menu "check for Update" in Tools > Fredo6 Collection > FredoScale that leads to this message. Check out from time to time.

[Edit - 01 Apr 09 - 08:30 CET -> FredoScale 2.0b] various bugs fixed and some small evolutions
  • bugs signaled by Daniel S. (see http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17948&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=105#p144652)
  • Protractor now allows select axis by mouse (Click, drag, release) as in native Sketchup (also requested by Daniel S.)
  • Automatic cleanup of colinear edges generated by the slicer for Bend and Twist (can be disabled in the dialog box for slicing parameters)
  • inclusion of an alternative set of icons and cursors designed by Daniel S. Just go to the Default Parameters of FreeScale and select the alternative folder. You then need to restart Sketchup.
  • fixing of some other bugs I found
It requires you also upgrade to LibFredo6 3.1b. See that post at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178.
Doc not yet ready. So still in beta

------------------------------------
------------------------------------
FredoScale 2.0: In this second version of FredoScale, I have incorporated additional geometric deformations, many 'in a Box', but some without. As a result, the toolbar is now more crowded. For those having real-estate problems with icons, you can pick the ones you want to display in the Default Parameters dialog box.

FredoScale 2.jpg

  • Scale (box, target) ==> same as version 1.0
  • Taper (box, target) ==> same as version 1.0, but try to reconstruct curves, and gives option for properties of newly generated edges
  • Planar Shear (box, target, free) ==> new, and done as a native deformation, in live mode (so not destructive for components and curves)
  • Stretch (box, target) ==> new, with possibility to adjust the stretching plane (by default, in the middle). Stretch needs a little bit more work, with more options to decide between preserving or exploding curves (currently it always preserve curves).
  • Twist (box only) ==> new, based on a rotation angle, with an optional slicer
  • Radial Bend (free only) ==> new, partial or total, with an optional slicer to obtain smoother curves
  • Rotate (box, free) ==> nothing fancy, except that Shift and Arrows are used as Toggle for locking planes (i.e. no need to keep the keys depressed)

I also modify the shortcut strategy for the box orientation:
- Arrow Up will align on model axes
- Arrow Left and Arrow Right will cycle through axes of components at highest level
- Arrow Down will restore the initial alignment when selecting

I posted a video on YouTube to give a first overview of the tools.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPlxeNDJW5Q

FredoScale 2.0 requires you install LibFredo6_31 (see http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17947#p144178)

One reason it is Beta is that the documentation is not updated yet. I hope users would not have too much trouble making their way. As a hint, it is always a good idea to check out the contextual menus, as they always show the available options with their short cuts.
The other reason is that there is more code, and that the transformations have to make components unique, play with curves and glue, all things can have some attracting power on Bug Splats.
FredoScale User Manual - English - v2.0 - 28 Mar 09.pdf

A few additional remarks for Users:
  • Scale, Planar Shear and Rotate are not destructive and leave component and curves unchanged. They operate in Live Deformation mode (which you can disable however)
  • Taper, Stretch, Twist and Bend are destructive and may make components unique and explode curves. I have tried to minimize these actions to what is necessary. Except Stretch, they don’t support Live Deformation.
  • In general, it is better to enclose the selection within a group for complex model. It provides a much easier way to keep the selection across Undo and also isolates the part being deformed from the rest of the model. Twist, Taper, Bend does it internally anyway.
  • As usual, always save your work before executing the destructive transformations. A bug splat is always possible, especially on complex models. There is a Progress bar, but I did not incorporate yet a way to interrupt the processing.

For Translators (Pichuneke, Marco Cosedi, Tom2 and other potential contributors)[/b]
The Italian, Spanish and German translations have been preserved both for FredoScale 2.0 and LibFredo6 3.1, but as there have been some changes in the code and new features, some strings need additional translations. In the Translation dialog box, you’ll find the obsolete strings at the very end.

Finally, as it was request from some of you, I have added a ‘donation’ menu. Note that the plugin is free however, for any usage.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Fredo6

First of all: Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! and again thank you...:)

I'm still trying to find my jaw that fall somewhere in the floor after seeing your video, but nevermind that... You added alot of new and usefull tools to this plugin but the one that really caugh my atention on the video where the stretching one that could turn some components into a simplified DC component. Simply great.

Your one of the reasons that makes me see how lazy and unfocus to modeling (and texturing, animating or new hardware for that matter...) the sketchup development team really is (and how we users content with so few from them). I sure hope you get hired or get some type of recognition from the SK Team, and a lot of donations from us.

I bow before you my friend.

P.S.: did i already said "thank you"?

hey fredo, i thought you said this wouldn't work with the new plugin :D
viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17151&start=30

one thing, f4 on a mac is used for the dashboard however, i'm able to invoke the slicer by opening the tab key dialog.

Just in case nobody else has noticed, there's an html file (freescale.donation.html) in the freescale_dir_20 folder.. you can make a donation via that link.
