Problems With su2stl.rb

Postby George W. Bush on Fri May 16, 2008 2:45 am

Hello Sketchup Gurus!

I'm kind of having a problem with exporting .stl files. I've been using the most excellent su2stl.rb for several months now to export .stl files to my CAM software. Now all of a sudden (literally, since yesterday) this happens:

1. Once I'm done drawing the part, I save my work as a .skp file, then I go to the .stl exporter.

2. Then this happens.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks a bunch!

and since when is our moronic president a sketchup user? does he use it to design weapons to obliteraite what tiny scraps are left of the iraqi government? or to make plans to tottaly screw over the entire economy and education system?

hopefuly, this is only your user name, and you are not the loony that is our president.

i, however, have no idea how to help you with your converter problem. ask Solo.

Sketchup has the smallest learning curve so that I may be able to wrap my moronic brain around the interface. I'm new to CAD work and I've tried many other modeling programs. SketchUP works well for what I want to do with it. This is also the name I play Counter Strike under (as well as a satirical joke that I probably just screwed something up, hence me asking a question here), and since this is a place where people that do 3D work there may also be a connection with that as well (I've gotten messages from people on other forums asking me if I'm the same guy they play Counter Strike with. It's surprising where you find people on the Internet :D ). Does Solo normally frequent the ruby boards? I'd hate to bug him especially since this is my first thread here and apparently my name is catching animosity from many people.

ok, you're odviously not the president because:
A) you play counter strke
B) you use smilies
C) the president would have someone write his posts for him

and dude, look around. you'll soon see that Solo (AKA Pete) is the SU equivilant of God.

and back to the topic (sorry :P ): it looks like youve got some reversed (blue) faces in your model, these could be messing up the exporter. To change them round all you need to do is right click on the offending face->reverse face.

Other than that im not sure what it might be, i dont have a lot of experience using the su2stl plugin.

Try saving the .skp as a different name, close SU then open up the model by clicking on new save. now try again.

If you fail then upload it and i will convert it for you with Deep exploration.

Dear Mister President,
Although me and my country didn't agree you decide alone to flatten Iraq, I suggest that you download the latest version (April 07 2008) at my site, here: http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/em_fil_page.htm
I've recently updated it because of the problem you're having.
And please, send me a copy of your new brain rapid prototyping model :roflmao:

ok, I tried that but it still made my part on the right disappear and the part on the left 'discombobulate.' Thanks for helping me troubleshoot though.

It pains me to say that didn't work either  I have uploaded the file.

The first time my problem happened, I did a search to see if there was an update to su2stl. That's what led me to this site. Many thanks for your update though because this problem seems to only happen on the small things I draw, the larger things work great! 8-)

What if it wasn't a joke? What if this was a test to see who would insult a new poster strictly on name alone, without regards to the actual content he or she posted? Would you have had the same reaction to my first post if I had named myself "Baby Puncher?" When you made your first post on this forum, did anyone say "And since when is Dr. Frankenstein's assistant a SketchUP user? Does he use it to reanimate a corpse to obliterate our lovely cobblestone town?" I'll still give you much respect though because you looked past your own prejudice of a specific text string just enough to point me in the right direction. :thumb: It's hard for people to do that- especially over the Internet.

Cheers to all

Wow! It works great! Thank you so much for your help, solo; as well as linking me to Deep Exploration :ecstatic:.

Also, it has come to my attention that I'll be banned soon for my name, so thanks again to everyone that tried to help me with my problem. Never forget errors are still errors no matter where they come from and the name of a 'whistle blower' doesn't make the error any less relevant. thanks again everyone!

Sincerely,

George Walrus Bush
