Camera and clipping trouble (Film and Stage plugin)
-
Im planning some shots for a short I will be making, but I have a really frustrating problem with Sketchup. Im using the Film and Stage plugin.. When I create a new camera there is a huge, huge box around it (which Im sure has a purpose...) But the problem is that it is ridicilously big and causes clipping problems... Why!? I cant use Sketchup unless I find out, which would be really sad...
Se my attachment for an example. If you click the camera in front of the guys, you'll see the box...
Really hope somebody can help me!

I'm not sure why the bounds are so large either
But I'd fix it like this...
View > Hidden Geometry > ON.
Edit the camera component.
Edit > Select_All
Hold Shift+Ctrl and select the camera only left right so it is 'deselected'.
Press delete key to erase everything else inside the camera component...
Exit exit mode.
View > Hidden Geometry > OFF.
The camera now has a much reduced bounding-box that includes just its geometry... -
Hi!
First of all... Thanks for your help. Im glad you have a solution for me:)
But Im not sure if I got how you did it. Im a beginner, you know...In addition to that, english is not my first language...
Did you manually resize the component? You deselected everything but the camera? What exactly is a component? How do I edit it?
Thanks for you patience:)

A component is something just like a group (from this point of view). A collection of geometry separated from other geometry.
Draw a box, triple click on it (to select all) then right click on the selection and there are two menu items (among others): make group or make component.
Anyway, either of them you make, there will be a bounding box around it. With a simple box shape, this bounding box will ideally follow the edges.
With your cameras, there must have been some stray geometry included as their bounding boxes were extremely huge.
Now to edit a group or component, simply double click on it. To select all (what TIG did), press Ctrl+A (on Windows - I am not sure what the default is on Mac, maybe Option+A?). Now to deselect the camera, use the select tool and pull a selection box around it while holding the Ctrl (Option?) and Shift keys down (beside the select tool, there will be a - sign). If you do this, the camera will not be selected but everything else (including that mysterious geometry) will still be. Now press the Delete button to get rid of this ghost selection.
Click anywhere outside the component to get out of its editing context.

I cant seem to delete the geometry (boxes) without deleting the camera. At the same time I cant deselect the camera without deselecting the boxes either. If I doubleclick the camera to enter the edit mode the boxes are locked in some way. Am I missing something obvious here?
Almost a little embarrasing now...
-
You need to enterthose groups (components?). Double click some of the visible geometry to enter the editing context.
-
I doubleclick the camera and obviously enter edit mode (seems like its edit group-mode). The huge box around it becomes stapled. Then I deselect the camera, but are not able to delete the boxes. To do that I have to select the camera again... And if I have to delete the camera theres obviosly no point to it...
You did it with the file I attached? Ill soon pay you to show me live via TeamViewer...
-
You do not delete the bounding box - every group or component has that box around.
Just delete whatever (mysterious geometry) is inside - except the camera itself. So once inside, select all > deselect the camera > delete whatever is left in the selection.
Then exit the group/component and see that bounding box suddenly shrink to human size.
-
Ok.
Seems like there nothing else but the camera inside. Nothing to delete, in other words. And the bounding box doesn't shrink...

Edit mode (double clicking the camera): http://cl.ly/1f0E201E2p1H0K1m2h03
Still in edit mode. Deleted everything but the camera: http://cl.ly/0t1Q3x2009402P2E3Z1n
Exiting edit mode. Boudning box still there...: http://cl.ly/0t1Q3x2009402P2E3Z1n
I have to say again. Thanks for your help and patience...

Well, it was TIG who proceeded that way (I only believed him as usually).
I guess I'll have to look into it again.

I've looked into this a bit more for you...
It's not that straightforward BUT it is fixable...
There are two other hidden groups inside the camera's group, they are called 'frustrum_rays' [several guide-line rays along th edges of the view 'box'] and 'frustrum_faces' [the planes that make up the camera's view 'box']
These are on both on their own layers that are switched 'OFF'.
Use the 'Layer Browser' to switch them 'ON' and you'll see what I mean.
Select both of these layers in the Browser and use the '-' button to delete them - using the option to delete the layer's contents - this will remove the two groups.
See this screenshot... -
OK guys, I did not sleep last night. Leaving now...

Can't believe it... That simple. I knew about those all the time, but not that they were causing all the trouble.

Sorry it took so long for 'the penny to drop'... as it were...
